Toadying up to Waxman
An LA Times story the other day said that Waxman had "persuaded" the Congress to pass a bill allowing a subway to be built down Wilshire to the sea. Persuaded my foot. It wasn't as if Congress cared one way or the other. It was Waxman who, 15 years ago, rammed a bill through congress making it illegal to build a subway down Wilshire, though for the life of me I can't figure out what responsibility a congressman has for the safety of subway construction. Aren't federal, state, county and city agencies quite enough? Of course, Waxman's reasons for stopping the subway never had anything to do with safety. His wealthy westside constituents didn't want poor minorities from South Central LA using the subway to ride to their neighborhoods and steal their TVs. Of course, that was before westside gridlock set in. I don't why his constituents don't realize that Waxman has done more to make Los Angeles the most congested city in American for ten years in a row. He should be hung by his thumbs in Pershing Square not praised by the LA Times for finally repealing the exact shortsighted legislation that he himself created.
