I was thinking about my knee operation today. It went so smoothly I almost didn't notice what happened. They put me on the bed, gave me an IV and a little sedative to relax me. It seemed like I took a short nap and woke up quite normally in the same spot and realized quite calmly that the operation was over. A nurse nearby noticed that I was awake and offered me a cold 7-Up and some graham crackers, which tasted great, since I hadn't had anything to eat or drink for the previous 14 hours. Then the nurse and I resumed our conversation about Indonesia, the country of her birth.
For the first day after my operation my knee was feeling great. I really didn't feel any pain at all. The doctor told me he'd given me a shot in the knee to kill the pain. I mistakenly thought that it wasn't going to hurt at all. I didn't use the crutches and the cane only a little bit. Since then it's been pretty stiff and painful. It feels a lot like it felt right after I had the injury last October. I hope I didn't cause any problems by taking the operations so lightly the first day. But actually, as the doctor explained, there's very little for me to have injured since he really didn't put in any stitches but rather only pulled out a small piece of loose material. If I sit too long my knee gets quite stiff and it's hard to get up. I was supposed to put ice on in the knee but that seemed like way too much trouble and ice has never helped me very much in the past so I didn't bother. Another example of my inability to follow instructions.
The puppy still isn't housebroken yet. But as we keep him in the kitchen when he is in the house (and in a cage at night) it hasn't been too great a problem. I keep a supply of rags, a mop, and a gallon of vinegar on hand at all times.
My early tomatoes are performing nicely. Some are sweet, some are acidic, and some have the consistency of wet newspaper and taste only slightly better.
