The "War On Terror" is Meaningless

Zbigniew Brzezinski in a recent column noted that the "War on Terror" is a gross misnomer that has muddled the American mind. "Terrorism," he says, "is not an enemy but a technique of warfare."

I'm trying to think of a way to make his observation even more hard-hitting. To speak of the "war on Terror" is as meaningless as to speak of the "War on Outflanking The Enemy" or the "War on Coming In Under The Radar," or "The War on Keeping Your Powder Dry." How about "The War on Don't Shoot Till You See the Whites of Their Eyes?"

I suspect if Bush ever addressed these points to Bush in person, Bush would answer that the war on terror was just a shorthand. Of course what he meant was was "the war on terroists." At least that has the virture of making some sense. But who are these terrorists and where are they? Bush would say they are "the people who hate our freedoms" and "they are everywhere." And now I have to take it back again. His answer doesn't make sense after all.
