Drama Queen By The Bay

San Francisco is turning into a bit of a municipal drama queen over this recent oil spill accident in which the Cosco Busan got lost in the fog, hit one of the supports for the Bay Bridge and dropped 58,000 gallons of bunker fuel into the water. Given the amount of coverage the incident has received one would think that San Francisco has been near obliterated by an asteroid. Actually the problems have been a good deal less severe. As far as I can tell you a bunch of birds (1500) got covered in oil and some died. The governor has delayed the Dungeness crab fishing season (boy that is a crisis for some of the local restaurants) for another month or so. Still everybody is talking an Exxon Valdez type disaster. I just don't see it. The Exxon Valdez spilled 11 million gallons into Prince William sound. The San Francisco Bay spill is one half of one percent of that. Of course San Francisco has a lot more drama queens than Alaska ever did.
