The New York Times today quoted the Rev. D. Jeremiah Wright as saying:
"Mr. Wright, who is retiring this year as pastor of the 8,000-member Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, spent much of his address discussing differences between blacks and whites but argued that 'different does not mean deficient.' Black people speak differently, learn differently and like different types of music than whites do, he said, but similar differences exist within races as well."
I'm glad it was the Rev. Wright saying this. Could you imagine the tectonic blast if John McCain, for instance, had said that blacks speak differently, learn differently and like different types of music than whites? The mainstream media would scream out his "blunder" in headlines eight inches high. Rev. Sharpton would call for him to resign the Republican nomination immediately. Blacks would be m arching through the streets of New York. CBS would do a one-hour special entitled, "The Day John McCain's Blew His Chance to Be President."
