Katrina II

A new hurricane, Gustav, is looking like it might hit New Orleans five days from now on September 2nd. The federal government is rushing in water, food, cots and emergency generators for the people who decide to stay and buses and planes for the people who do not.

The levies are not fully rebuilt yet. If the hurricane hits New Orleans dead on, Lake Pontchartrain will no doubt overflow again. Low-lying (below sea level) districts will be flooded once more. The major, Ray Najin, will be overwhelmed as usual. The people who rebuilt their houses below sea-level will see them flooded again. The federal government will be blamed. Look for news stories calling Gustav "Katrina II."

Also when the blame game starts, no one will want to blame a black major, so the networks will blame Bush again. Obama will say "They had three years to prepare. Why couldn't they have done any better."

One possibility, Bush will not wait in Washington this time around to inspect the damage. Bush, Obama and Mcain will alll be flying into town to show concern and demonstrate compassion. I hope tghe FAA is up to preventing mid-air collisions with all the politicians and celebrities due to fly in.

The last time a hurricane hit New Orleans people refused to leave their homes because (1) they were afraid looters would steal their big screen TVs, and (2) even people who wanted to leave couln't get out because the mayor, Ray Nagin, thought it beneath the dignity of black people to be evacuated in school buses. So the school buses stayed in their lots and got flooded and the residents stayed in their houses and got drowned.
